East Lake Update

East Lake Update

With the cooler weather the fishing on East has gotten a little more friendly to those of us who prefer to target fish in the shallower areas of the lake or on dries. On some days the best fishing is still in the deeper water with long leaders and deep nymph rigs, but fish which were very reluctant to take an artificial dry in past weeks seem to have become a little less wary of a well presented dry or emerger pattern. As a result fishing a light dry dropper rig closer to shore can produce some nice fish, particularly in the afternoons and evenings. The dry fly action may be day to day for now, but it has been steadily improving over the wary fish we saw in the doldrums of August. There are still good numbers of Callibaetis around, and the crowds tend to thin up on East as we move into Fall. Now’s a great time to try to get into one of the big Browns or healthy Rainbows that have been common on East this year.
