Fall River – August 1, 2025

Fall River continues to produce consistent summer fishing, with good numbers of stocked trout confirmed by recent ODFW surveys. New fish were added in late July, and more are expected throughout August, keeping the system well-stocked and active. Midge hatches remain steady, and fish are eating Zebra Midges in olive, red, or black all day long. Size 18–22 is the sweet spot, especially when paired with light tippet and clean drifts.

Dry fly windows are best in the mornings and evenings. PMDs and caddis are the most reliable surface bugs, and trout are keyed in on emergers and smaller dries like Parachute PMDs, Elk Hair Caddis, and Purple Haze. Fish rising in shallow runs and near undercut banks are often willing to eat if you keep things delicate.

Subsurface, the usual players are working well—Tailwater Tinys, mini jig leeches, Warrior Jigs, and flashback pheasant tails are all getting attention. If things go quiet, try stripping a mini jig leech or a small streamer through deeper holding water. The bigger fish are often lurking low and need something with movement to react.

Overall, the Fall is in great shape. Clear water, steady hatches, and new fish in the system make it a solid bet for technical dry fly fishing and light nymph rigs this week.
