Fall River Report - 9/25/26

The Fall River continues to be a great option as we move into the final stretch of September. Cold spring-fed water keeps conditions consistent, while cooler days and changing weather should continue to open up more opportunities throughout the day. Spreading out from the more popular stretches and working deeper slots, weed edges, and submerged structure can be a good way to find less pressured water.

BWOs are becoming increasingly important with the cooler weather, particularly during overcast afternoons. PMDs remain part of the mix, with midges and smaller caddis also worth having available. Ants and beetles can still provide opportunities on warmer afternoons, but the transition toward the smaller fall mayflies should continue as we move toward October.

Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, BWO and PMD nymphs, midges, scuds, and smaller stonefly patterns all worth having in the rotation. Balanced leeches and small streamers continue to be good options through deeper slots and around structure. Keep in mind that the Fall River, below Fall River Falls, closes to angling October 1 in conjunction with the Upper Deschutes, while the river above the falls remains open year-round.
