"June"uary On The Crooked

The weather is gonna be in the 50’s the next couple of days and the fish have been active and willing the last couple of weeks. Look for fish to start being more active in the afternoons when the temps are at their peaks and the insects start to move around more. Winter can be a great time to get the 3wt out and hit the river with some dry flies. The shade of the canyon in spots can turn the bugs on as well as cloud cover. Use a 9ft monofilament leader and have some 6x mono ready in case they get picky. I like to fish a wet fly or soft hackle after my dry to imitate an emerging bug and up my chances at hooking fish. Besides a little mud the access will be wide open in the canyon and these unseasonable conditions means it time to get out there!

Swinging small leech patterns in the deep and slow holes will pick up fish as well.
