Lakes Update May 19, 2023

Paulina Lake opened up on Wednesday and is ice free and ready for fishing, no reports yet from there but the typical lake stuff leeches, chironomids, small mayfly nymphs should get the job done. East Lake is beginning to thaw and the resort side and the hot springs area have open water. There is still lots of snow up there and the lake is still mostly frozen but we're getting close, I would guess another 7-10 days. North and South Twin have both been fishing well on leeches and chironomids under an indicator. Stripping or paddle trolling buggers is another fun way to find some fish in the Twin Lakes. Wickiup has been ice free but we haven’t heard many reports. One report of a nice rainbow coming on a black jigged leech. The warm weather should get the fish going a bit more at wickiup. Davis Lake is also ice free and accessible but like Wickiup, we haven't heard many reports. The Cascade Lakes Highway is set to open on tuesday but it sounds like there is still a good amount of snow up higher (5-7 feet) along the roadside and in parking areas. Lava and Hosmer are likely still a week or two out with all the snow.
