Fishing has been good on the Crooked River, and the mix of patterns right now makes for some fun days on the water. Balanced scuds are producing The day stretch from Warm Springs to Trout Creek is fishing well, with steady trout action and early signs of steelhead showing farther downriver—fish counts are looking strong, so it’s worth keeping tabs on. Trout are still holding in their caddis lies under overhanging trees and shaded banks, with the best dry fly action coming late afternoon into evening. Foam Body Caddis, X Caddis, and Elk Hair Caddis are all producing when fish are on top. When the wind picks up in the canyon, switch to subsurface work with patterns like the Pink Tracksuit, Berry PCP, assorted Caddis Pupae, Jig PMD Nymphs, and Walt’s Worms. The combo of solid trout fishing now and steelhead movement down low makes this a prime time to be on the river.
