LOWER DESCHUTES REPORT - 7/17/26

The Lower Deschutes continues to settle into a classic summer rhythm, with healthy fish feeding consistently throughout the Warm Springs to Maupin stretch. Stable flows and cooler overnight temperatures have kept fish active.  Trout are shifting throughout the day, so anglers covering water and fishing each run thoroughly are putting together the most consistent days.

Evening caddis activity continues to headline the hatch, while PMDs remain an important afternoon food source. A few PEDs and BWOs are still mixed in, creating enough variety that trout rarely key on a single insect for long. Surface action has been most dependable during the first and last few hours of daylight. 

Nymphing continues to be the most productive approach throughout the day. Stonefly nymphs paired with smaller mayfly or caddis patterns remain a dependable combination, while Perdigons, Jig Pheasant Tails, Zebra Midges, and tan caddis pupa are producing fish through deeper holding water.
