The Lower Deschutes continues to fish well. Flows spiked a bit earlier this week but have since come back down. Currently running at 4100 CFS and the fish are happy. Big bugs are starting to wrap up but people are still finding some on the big dries. Caddis are taking their place in many sections of the river and fish are keying into them. Nymphing during non hatch times has been effective with a variety of small mayfly and caddis nymphs including two-bits, hares ears, durcells, nitro caddis, and perdigones. Utilizing tungsten nymphs or adding a bit of split shot to your rig is smart to make sure you are getting down nice and deep. The crowds have subsided a but and the fishing is excellent so the lower is a great choice now.
