Summer hatches are rolling now that the stoneflies have wrapped up for the season. The river has transitioned fully into its PMD and Caddis groove, with consistent dry fly opportunities building in the late afternoons and evenings.
PMDs are coming off in good numbers, often with two emergence windows—one mid-afternoon and another closer to dusk. Caddis activity is strong midday through dark, with Tan and Olive patterns in the #14–18 range doing the most work.
Dry fly action has picked up along shaded banks and slower seams, especially under cloud cover, which we should see plenty of heading into the weekend. A Corn-Fed Caddis or X-Caddis paired with a small PMD pattern is a solid topwater combo.
Below the surface, nymphing continues to be productive throughout the day. Euro rigs and standard indicators are finding success with Perdigons, Soft Hackle Pheasant Tails, Micro Mayflies, and 2 Bit Hookers. If clouds hang around, swinging soft hackles in the evening is definitely worth a shot.
This cooling weather system should keep things steady—expect happy trout and good windows for both nymphing and dries through the weekend.
