METOLIUS REPORT - 10/23/26
The Metolius continues to offer good fall fishing as we move into the final stretch of October. Flows remain relatively stable, with cooler water and changing weather providing a variety of opportunities throughout the system.
The fall hatch mix remains broad, with BWOs, PMDs, Mahogany Duns, and Cinygmula all worth watching for. Word is Green Drakes and Flavs are still providing some afternoon opportunities, although their fall window is beginning to wind down. October Caddis remain important, along with smaller tan and gray caddis, while Little Olive Stones and Golden Stones continue to be part of the mix.
Subsurface fishing remains productive with egg patterns, Perdigons, soft hackles, caddis pupa, and stonefly nymphs all worth having in the rotation. With large numbers of kokanee moving through the system, egg patterns have been particularly effective. Bull trout fishing continues to be a good option with larger streamers around deeper pools and structure. Spawning activity remains underway, so watch carefully for redds and avoid disturbing spawning fish.
