METOLIUS REPORT - 8/21/26
The Metolius remains an excellent choice as we move through the back half of August. Cold water continues to provide great conditions with fish spread throughout the system. The Met continues to reward anglers who slow down and make clean presentations.
The hatch mix remains diverse, with PMDs and BWOs joined by tan caddis, Golden Stones, Little Olive Stones, and rusty spinners. Larger olive mayflies are also showing, while ants and beetles are worth having during warmer afternoons.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, soft hackles, caddis pupa, stonefly nymphs, and smaller mayfly patterns producing throughout the river. Bull trout activity continues to be good, and late summer is an excellent time to bring the heavier rod and work larger streamers through deeper pools and structure.
