METOLIUS REPORT - 7/3/26
The Metolius continues to fish well with its consistently cold, clear water. PMDs have become the dominant hatch, while Green Drakes are still showing up in pockets of the river. Evening caddis activity continues to improve, with BWOs and Yellow Sallies rounding out the menu during cooler periods.
Nymphing remains the most productive approach outside of hatch windows. Golden Stone nymphs, PMD nymphs, caddis pupa, Perdigons, Jig PTs, Two Bit Hookers, and Hare's Ears are all producing fish. During afternoon and evening hatches swapping to PMD Sparkle Duns, CDC Comparaduns, X-Caddis, Iris Caddis, or Elk Hair Caddis. For those targeting Bull stripping larger streamers such as Sparkle Minnows, Sculpzillas, or olive and white Sex Dungeons through deeper runs and structure prove to be the ticket.
Stealth and presentation continue to be the key to success. Long leaders, light tippet, and accurate drifts will consistently outperform heavier setups.
