The Metolius has continued to fish very well for both Redsides and Bulls. Nymphing is the best way to get into fish, and big Stoneflies, October Caddis, and Mayfly nymphs have all been producing fairly consistently. Good Caddis and Mayfly activity throughout the day provides opportunity to fish dries. Keep your eyes open and cast dries to rising fish, fish deep the rest of the time. There are a ton of Kokanee spread throughout the system and while the Rainbows will hang out around Kokanee redds gobbling eggs they are also hanging in some faster riffles and willing to take the usual assortment of aquatic insects. There have also been some small Stoneflies out and about and on the right days the Redsides are really keying in on them and looking towards the surface
For the Bulls big white streamers have been tough to beat, they’ve been gorging on spawned out Kokanee. They’ll take the occasional nymph as well, this time of year provides as good a chance as any for getting into a huge, native char.
