The Crooked River Switch

The Crooked River Switch

August is here! Which means the fishing on the Crooked River is going to improve. August is arguably one of the best times out on the Crooked. The fishing has been turning on and staying on for a few hours! This has provided for some fun days out on the Crooked. We still have not seen a major hatch take place, however, we are seeing some PMDs and caddis coming off through out the day. The fishing in the afternoon has been much better than the fishing in the morning. A few grabs throughout the morning on the nymphs with a few fish to hand. The “switch” has been going on at about noon. Lasting until about 5 pm. Fish are gobbling flies during this. Our go to nymphs have been red/black winkers midges (sz 20/22), pheasant tail soft hackle (sz 20/22), red two-bit hooker (sz 20/22), black two-bit hooker (sz 20/22), and pheasant tails (sz 16/18).

If you are throwing dries, fishing a PMD, purple haze, or parachute adams will be effective. Blind casting will be your best bet!
