Upper Deschutes – June 20, 2025

Cooler temps and scattered rain could make for some sneaky-good fishing windows this weekend. The bugs are out—and so are the mosquitoes—so come prepared for both.

Green Drakes are still around in select stretches and can bring fish up during overcast afternoons. PMDs and Caddis are consistent throughout the day, and don’t overlook terrestrials—ants and beetles can be especially effective near grassy banks and undercuts.

Dry fly opportunities should improve with the weather shift, so keep a few Parachute Drakes, Sparkle Duns, and Elk Hair Caddis in your box. For picky fish, downsizing to a #16 PMD or a black ant can seal the deal.

Under the surface, nymphing continues to produce. Perdigons, Micro Mayflies, and Jigged Hare’s Ears are all excellent choices. Focus on deeper seams and around structure. Small streamers twitched through undercut banks and logjams are also turning heads—bring something olive or black with a little flash.
