UPPER DESCHUTES REPORT - 9/4/26
The Upper Deschutes will begin to transition with cooler weather and flows starting to come down through the system. Trout remain active through the headwaters, while deeper bends, undercut banks, and woody structure farther downstream are all worth attention.
With the changing weather, the hatch mix will follow suit. PMDs and caddis remain important, while BWOs should become increasingly worth watching for as cooler and cloudier days settle in. Ants and beetles remain good options through the headwaters, with smaller hoppers still worth carrying while warmer afternoons hang around.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with small mayfly nymphs, Perdigons, Hare's Ears, caddis nymphs, and smaller stonefly patterns all worth having in the rotation. Streamers and small leeches also remain good options around deeper water, undercut banks, and structure.
