CROOKED RIVER REPORT - 10/9/26
The Crooked River has seen a significant drop in flows this week, with releases below Bowman Dam now around 36 CFS, down from approximately 100 CFS last week. These flows are concentrating fish into the remaining deeper pools and runs. With the river running well below typical fall levels, minimizing pressure on fish and considering alternative fisheries is worth keeping in mind until flows improve.
BWOs remain the primary fall mayfly to watch for, particularly during cooler and overcast afternoons. Midges continue to be important, while PMDs and smaller caddis may still provide opportunities depending on the day. October Caddis are also part of the seasonal mix, although the current low-water conditions are the bigger consideration.
Smaller Baetis nymphs, Perdigons, Pheasant Tails, scuds, and midges remain worth having in the rotation. Light presentations and careful approaches will be increasingly important in the reduced flows. Avoid disturbing concentrated fish in the deeper holding water and handle any fish with extra care.
