Fall River Update

Fall River Update

The consistent ODFW stocking on the Fall is pretty much done for the year, but there are good numbers of fish in the system. Many of the fish have become more wary of anglers and artificial flies, but we are still having good days and finding some nice fish. Many of the large, bright, attractor style patterns that we see so much success on when the fish are fresh into the system are no longer effective, and we have transitioned to the small Midge and Mayfly patterns that we find most effective through the Fall and Winter months. A well placed streamer has a chance of getting the attention of some of the big broodstock fish that are around, but expect most action to come on light nymph rigs. There are BWO’s around and on the right day there is opportunity to fish dries. We prefer delicate patterns with slender bodies, Sparkle Duns and Hackle Stackers are favorites around the shop.

Suggested Dries: Sparkle Dun BWO #18-22, Hackle Stacker BWO #18-22, Tilt Wing BWO #18-20, Tilt Wing Mahogany #16-18, Tilt Wing PMD #16-20, Purple Haze #16-20, Parachute Adams #16-20

Suggested Nymphs: Red or Black Winkers Midge #18-22, Red or Black Zebra Midge #18-22, Black Tailwater Tiny #18-22, Black or Red Two Bit Hooker #16-20, Olive Micro Mayfly #18-22, Black or Pearl Rainbow Warrior #18-20, Red or Tan San Juan Worm
