LOWER DESCHUTES REPORT 8/28/26
The Lower Deschutes remains a good late-August trout option, with redsides active throughout the Warm Springs to Maupin stretch. The Warm Springs boat ramp is open and normal access has returned following the Bench Fire. Fish are holding in riffles, broken current, and softer seams along the banks, with the cooler morning and evening periods offering the better windows for working shallower water.
Caddis remain the main event, with evening activity continuing to bring fish to the surface. Tan caddis and smaller dark caddis are both important, while PMDs and Pale Evening Duns remain part of the late-summer mix.
Subsurface fishing remains productive with caddis pupa, smaller mayfly nymphs, Perdigons, stonefly nymphs, and jig patterns producing through the faster water. The steelhead season remains closed following the August 15 closure, but trout fishing remains open
