METOLIUS REPORT - 8/28/26
The Metolius remains in great shape as August winds down, with cold water keeping fish active throughout the system. Focusing efforst around deeper slots, pocket water, and softer edges with clean presentations continue to be the biggest factor in consistently finding action.
The late-summer hatch mix is getting more interesting. PMDs, BWOs, tan caddis, and micro caddis remain important, with rusty spinners and larger olive mayflies adding to the afternoon and evening activity. The first October Caddis are also beginning to show, giving anglers another larger dry and emerging pupa option heading toward September.
Subsurface fishing remains steady with Perdigons, caddis pupa, soft hackles, stonefly nymphs, and smaller mayfly patterns producing throughout the river. Bull trout fishing remains good, but spawning activity is beginning and anglers should carefully avoid areas where fish are actively spawning.
