This is an amazing time of the year to visit the Metolius. Yes, it’s difficult. And no, there’s not a ton of fish to be caught. But there are some nice hatches coming off and the fish are feeding. The flows have come down to a normal 1400cfs-ish and the mayflies and caddis are out on the warmer days. The road is still almost impassable below the hatchery. So we’re left with the river between Allingham and the Hatchery. Mid-day BWO and the speckle sedge/caddis are out. If there’s no surface activity, get under a bobber with a golden stone/hair’s ear/olive soft hackle combo.
As always with this fickle spring creek, always a good idea to swing by the shop or call in the get the very latest on what’s working out there.
