Access on the Metolius has become a little more difficult with the storms we’ve seen this February. The road is being plowed pretty consistently in the Camp Sherman area but access to the lower campgrounds can be tricky. The fishing has been good and there is opportunity to find nice Redsides as well as the big Bulls that are in the system. A heavy nymph rig has been the most consistent way to find fish. We are getting fish on large Stonefly and October Caddis patterns but picking up better numbers on small Mayfly and Midge nymphs. There has been a pretty consistent BWO hatch most afternoons. The window for throwing dries can be short but can be heavy with surface activity on the right days. We’re catching most of our Bulls on nymphs but a big streamer will find the occasional fish as well.
